Stamptastic Friends Blog Hop

Welcome to this month’s Stamptastic Friends Blog Hop.

This Month’s Theme is Nautical.

We have quite a few stamp sets in our annual catalogue for the nautical theme but I wanted to do a card using the watercolour technique and only a couple of stamps.

How I made my Watercolour Technique Card.

Photo of finished Watercolour Technique card - version 1

I started off with a piece of watercolour paper and the following ink refills:

  • Night of Navy
  • Balmy Blue
  • Tahitian Tide
  • Pretty Peacock

First I put some water onto the top of my piece of watercolour paper and then added a few drops of the Night of Navy ink onto a silicon mat before painting on top of the water. Once that was nearly dry I repeated it with the other colours and where the colour was very pale I added another wash on top. When I was happy with the effect I put the watercolour paper to one side to dry.

How I stamped and punched out a boat for my Watercolour Technique card.

Once it was dry I stamped two of the boats from the You are my Anchor Card Kit using Black Memento ink. I then made some froth on the waves using a white gel pen. Next I punched out a boat using the Sailboat Builder Punch and Basic Black card stock and stuck it onto the card front. I added Stampin’ Dimensionals in the middle of each sail and glue at the corners so that it looks like the sails have wind in them. Finally I stamped some grass along the bottom of the card front using the middle sized grass stamp from the Oceanfront stamp set and some birds using the stamp from Waves of Inspiration using Black Memento ink.

To finish off the card I cut a landscape card base using Basic White Thick card stock. Next I cut out a Basic Black mat layer and stuck it to the card base before adding the watercolour mat layer.

Second version of my watercolour Technique Card

With my second version, which is also my favourite one, I added the same inks to another piece of watercolour paper in exactly the same way as my first version. Next I added some white froth to the waves using again a white gel pen. Finally using the same grass stamp from Oceanfront stamp set I stamped the grass along the bottom of the card front using Black memento ink. I made up the rest of the card the same as I did for version one.

I hope that you have enjoyed seeing how I made my watercolour technique card. It is a technique I often forget about but there is no reason why you cannot using our ink refills to watercolour with. Especially as I know they will coordinate with the rest of our papers and embellishments.

Why not give this technique a g and post your creations onto my Facebook page.

Until next time, keep stampin n crafting,
