Welcome to this month’s Stamptastic Friends Blog Hop
The theme this month is Summer Events
My project for this month’s theme is a scrapbook layout for my daughter’s graduation.
The beginning of the journey….
Each summer is it an exciting but nervous time for those who are getting their exam results. In 2008 my daughter, Heather, get her GCSE exam results and after a tough year being bullied they were not too great. She is also dyslexic but was not offered the support required to get better results. Even her teachers said that she would not make much of her life.
Well of course this was like a red flag to any parent, so we looked at her positives and thought how she could achieve better grades, whilst doing something she was good at. I remembered hearing from her Middle School Art Teacher, one Parent’s Evening, how Heather had a natural talent for Art and to look at getting her to do Art at A’ Level. Deep down I knew that she would struggle doing anything that involved lots of writing and exams so we looked at her doing an Art Course at our local Regional College.
Well that was the start of her journey to getting a degree and a job that she enjoys.
Finally after 4 years at Regional College she was offered places at all of her chosen Universities including Norwich University of the Arts. But she chose to accept the place offered at Lincoln University, which we were pleased, as they offered a much better support programme for those with a learning need.
Then 3 years later, after many sleepless nights, tears and reading through dissertation rewrites (that was me) she got her degree in Graphic Design. She is now working for a design company as a graphic designer. Of course some of you know she has been responsible for taking my ideas and turning them into my branding for my website.
Daughter’s Graduation – Scrapbook layout
I started by choosing the colours for my scrapbook pages and noticed how the colours of the Lincoln University cape were the same as the Daffodil Delight and Pacific Point card stock.
Next I cut and laid the photos onto the layout leaving a space at the bottom of each page layout for her journey. I then cut a strip of coordinating card stock for each page.
I wanted to show that by being slow and steady she got to her goal. So when the Turtle stamp set and punch became available I knew I could change it to be a tortoise.
Scrapbook Layout – Daughter’s Graduation – How to change a Turtle into a Tortoise
I stamped the outline of each turtle/tortoise using Early Espresso ink and the shell images using Crumb Cake ink. I drew outlines onto the shell using the Soft Suede Dark blend and coloured in the background of the shell. Next using a Water Pen and Crumb Cake ink I drew the scales of the tortoise’s feet, neck and head. Next I punched out the large turtle/tortoise and fussy cut the small one out.
I then stamped the grass tufts using Just Jade ink onto the Daffodil Delight Strip. I repeated this with Evening Evergreen ink onto the Pacific Point strip. Next I stuck each strip along the bottom of each page.
I then die cut the year 2008 and 2015 out of Bermuda Bay card stock as it matched her dress and stuck them down onto the page. Then came the fiddly bit of making the mortar board. I did these by cutting a square of Basic Black card stock. Next I coloured in some white Bakers Twine using the Basic Black Dark Blend. Next I pushed it through a small hole in the middle of the square. I stuck the smaller one onto the large tortoise and the larger one onto my journaling mat.
