Welcome to this month’s Tech 4 Stampers Academy Blog Hop
This month’s theme is Cards for Kids
You know when you think you have a certain stamp set and then after hours of searching you realise that you did not order it. Well that was me this month. My original idea for a birthday card for a child was going to be using the Robot Buddies Kids Card Kit but I ended up using the Hippest Hippos stamp set and matching dies to make my birthday card for a little girl instead.
It is often most little girls dream to be a ballerina so I just had to do a very girly dancing hippo.
How I made the Birthday card for a little girl.
I started by cutting a A4 sheet of Basic White Thick card stock in half to make two landscape card bases. Next I cut a Highland Heather mat layer. I then die cut the middle of the mat layer using the Stitched with Whimsy dies and the Stitched Rectangle dies to make a frame. Next I decided to use the leaf velum from the Lovely Layers velum pack which I stuck to the back of the frame. My idea was to make a stage.
I then stamped the ballerina hippo using Black Memento ink onto a piece of Basic White card stock. Next I coloured in the hippo using the Smoky Slate Blends and I used the Highland Heather Blends for her cardigan and tutu.
I then die cut out the umbrella and coloured it in using the Highland Heather Blends and the Dark Basic Black Blend for the handle.
I stuck the hippo and the umbrella onto the velum background using Stampin’ Dimensionals and Mini Dimensionals.
How I finished off the Birthday card for a little girl
I added some Wink of Stella to the tutu and to the umbrella. Next I stamped the sentiment from the Hand-Penned Petals stamp set onto a strip of Basic White card stock using Gorgeous Grape ink. I added the sentiment to the frame using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Finally I added some bling using the Pastel Pearls around the frame and added one to the top of the umbrella.
I am really pleased how my birthday card for a little girl turned out. Now to hide it away from my granddaughter as I may give her it for her birthday.
Thank you for visiting my website today and seeing my birthday card for a little girl. I will be trying a similar version this time turning the hippo into a cow.

The hippos are a hit with Sale-a-bration this year. She’s doing a Gene Kelly! tfs
What a cutie that hippos is and your card is adorable
I love purple but had not thought about using for a child’s card – thank you!
Great card Cheryl, love your use of the vellum.
What a stunning card. You have inspired me to use more purple in my card making.
