Welcome to the Scrapbooking Global Blog Hop.
The theme this month is: Stencils/Textured Background.
The theme for this month has been decided by the talented Caz Hurst
I was so excited to see this month’s Blog Hop theme so I decided to make a scrapbook layout using handmade stencils. On my YouTube Lives in July I had made my own stencil using the heart die from the Friends for Life stamp set and dies bundle. So I decided to use it again but to make a scrapbook layout.
My niece got married in June this year and due to the large number of family members they decided to have a very small intimate wedding with a big party later on. For their thank you cards they chose a photograph of them on the beach so when I received our thank you card I knew I wanted to use it on a scrapbook layout.
How to make a scrapbook layout using handmade stencils – making the background
First I took a piece of acetate/window sheet and using the heart dies from the Friends for Life dies I die cut three stencils. One for each die making sure I left a large border around it.
I then took a piece of 12×12 Basic White cardstock and using the larger heart stencil and Garden Green, Granny Apple Green and Lemon Lime Twist ink I blended the three colours over the stencil. I did this until the whole of the 12×12 piece of card stock was filled.
Next I use the two smaller heart stencils and Basic Beige to blend hearts in between the larger green hearts. This also matched the groom’s suite and colours of the photograph on the thank you card.
How to make a scrapbook layout using handmade stencils – mat layers for thank you card
I did play around with which green card stock to use for the mat layers for the thank you car. I finally decided I liked the Lemon Lime Twist card stock on top of the Granny Apple Green card stock so I cut out the mat layers and added the thank you card to the front of them before sticking onto the scrapbook layout.
I will probably add some journaling later on but I am just as happy to leave it as it is as the bride and groom’s names and wedding date are already on the thank you card.
I really enjoyed making my own handmade stencils using acetate and various dies. They make a great background for scrapbook layouts and cards. I will now be looking for other stamp sets that have dies that I can make more handmade stencils with. Why not have a go yourself and share your makes on my Facebook group and in teh Scrapbooking Global Facebook group.

Great idea love the layout ❤️
Love the idea of using the die to create your own stencil. It has made the perfect background for your layout.
Oh this heart makes a stunning stencil!! I love it so much. And I love that you’ve scrapped a thankyou card – such a good idea to preserve it!! And the colours are so fresh and spring and beautiful. Totally awesome.
It is AMAZING what you have come up with her by creating your own stencil. Those colours you have used are just so crisp and refreshing. Lovely colour palette. I do LOVE your niece’s idea of having an intimate wedding then having a HUGE party to celebrate. Thanks for joining the hop again this month Cheryl. Cheers Shaz
I love how you made your own stencil with the heart die, so many colour possibilities. Amazing layout. Tina x
