Welcome to the Scrapbooking Global Blog Hop.
The theme this month is: A Combo Layout with a Pocket Page.
The theme for this month has been decided by the talented Kate Gardiner.
When I saw that this month’s theme was a Combo Scrapbook Layout with Pockets I must admit I was thrown and had to look up what a Combo Layout was. Then I had to look up what a pocket page was. Now if you have used any Close To My Heart products then you will know that they have pocket pages for their layouts. Now I do know that Stampin’ Up! are going to bring out some specific products just for Scrapbooking and I know that here in Europe we are looking forward to seeing what products come out very shortly.
How to make a Combo Scrapbook Layout with Pockets.
So here is my take on a Combo Scrapbook Layout with Pockets.
First I chose my photographs, yes I know I often do my layouts before I print off the photos but as this theme had pockets I felt confident in making a scrapbook layout in memory of one of my cats. This cat came to me as a hissing, spitting, scratching 1 year old fur ball having been returned back to the rescue centre as her previous owners could not cope with her and her sister. So I had her for 18 years and unfortunately 3 years ago I had to take the decision to help her on her way over the rainbow. We were give a lovely card, paw prints and some of her fur as a memento. I felt it was time to make that scrapbook layout.
How I made the first page of my Combo Scrapbook Layout with Pockets
I decided on what designer series paper I wanted to use and what colour card stock. I had some of the To Market DSP from doing my Paper Share in May. It is not the sort of paper I would choose but sometimes we need to step out of our comfort zone. I chose one of the papers with the little flowers on it and matched it with the Blackberry Bliss 12×12 card stock. I decided that as I only had 1 sheet of DSP and wanted to do 2 pages I would have to either cut the DSP or tear it. So I chose to tear it as it shows how losing a beloved pet tears you up.
Next I chose what stamps to use. When I scrapbook my pets I love stamping paw prints on them and at the moment Stampin’ Up! has 2 different stamp sets that have paws. The Pets & More stamp set and the stamp set in the By Your Side Card Kit.
For the first page I kept it very simple. Torn DSP along the side and photographs laid out on top of the scrapbook page. I used some of the Paper Butterfly accents and die cut out my cat’s name using the Mini Alphabet Dies. (Well I had the letters left over from a previous project).
How I made the second page of my Combo Scrapbook Layout with Pockets
For the second page I spent a bit more time on this. For the pockets I used the small Memory & More envelopes and added a mat layer of Blackberry Bliss card stock to the flap of the envelope. I then added a tag to each one using Blackberry Bliss card stock and the Keeping Tabs Punch.
I was given a packet of Daisies in a very small envelope so I cut out the front of that envelope, mat layered it using Basic White card stock and stuck it to the Blackberry Bliss mat layer. I popped the packet of seeds into the envelope. For my other envelope to take the paw prints I stamped the cat image from the Pets and More as that stamp looked exactly like my cat. I then wrote her name and ‘prints’ before stamping paws between the words. I added extra paw prints to it before sticking it onto the Blackberry Bliss mat layer.
I stuck the envelopes onto the scrapbook layout along with the card we received from our Vets and one of her final photographs taken just before we took her to our vets. I then added a couple more butterflies to finish off my page.
I enjoyed making this combo scrapbook layout with pockets in memory of my cat. I do hope that this has given you and idea to do your own scrapbook layouts. These layouts would be great for keeping tickets for events, mall keepsakes etc.
Until next time, keep stampin n crafting,
